Global Antelope Conservation

addraCaptive breeding programs have played a key role in the conservation of endangered antelope species.  White Oak Conservation Center (WOCC) has been particularly successful in managing and contributing to captive antelope breeding programs, which have included giant eland, eastern bongo, southern gerenuk, scimitar-horned oryx, roan antelope, and dama gazelles.

As linkages with field conservation efforts for these species of antelope are promoted, WOCC personnel have taken leadership roles in developing and implementing international conservation antelope programs.  Antelope conservation efforts are a priority of GIC.
